Western Clydesdales Launch Development Pathways for Junior Rugby League

Toowoomba, 3/2/2025 – The Western Clydesdales are proud to announce the initial piece in our Development Pathways, providing a vital stepping stone for young rugby league players across south-west Queensland. This exciting program will be showcased in just two weeks when the City v Country U17 boys teams face off as a curtain-raiser to the Brisbane Broncos v Gold Coast Titans Pre-Season Challenge at Toowoomba Sports Ground on Sunday, February 16.

The U17 teams feature emerging talent from across the region, including members of the Western Clydesdales’ Cyril Connell Cup squad. The match is set to highlight the depth of junior rugby league talent in South-West Queensland while offering players a valuable development opportunity in a high-performance environment.

Kick-off is scheduled for 10:25 AM, kicking off a blockbuster day of rugby league action. Following the U17 showcase, fans can enjoy a Hostplus Cup Trial against a Carina/Brisbane Tigers team and then the day culminates in the NRL Preseason Challenge Game.

Western Clydesdales Pathways Development Manager, Sam Elvy said the pathway is a crucial step in nurturing future stars of the game.
“This program is all about identifying and developing young talent, giving them the opportunity to test themselves at a high level. It’s an exciting time for rugby league in our region, and we can’t wait to see these players in action.”
