U18s get off to winning start

The Schriek Building Group Western Mustangs got off to a winning start to the Auswide Bank Mal Meninga Cup season with a win over Souths-Logan at Davies Park.

Coach Brendan Wilson’s team downed the Magpies 26-20, scoring five tries to four in the victory.

Two tries in quick succession to hooker Shaun Packer and prop Lachlan Thom saw the Mustangs lead 12-0 after 14 minutes.

Souths-Logan hit back with two tries of their own to see the Mustangs lead 12-10 at half-time.

Keanu Wright-Dunrobin, Blake Moore and captain Sam Gillespie crossed for second half tries to keep the Mustangs in front, closing out a six-point lead on the road to get off to a promising start to the under 18s season.
